Medicaid transportation brokers

In many states, Medicaid NEMT is managed by brokers who assign trips to a network of providers. To join, you apply, pass a credentialing review of your licenses, insurance, vehicles, and drivers, and agree to their service standards.

Direct Medicaid enrollment

Some states let providers enroll with Medicaid directly. You will need your business documents, insurance, vehicle and driver records, and a way to submit claims, often in EDI 837 format.

Health plans and managed care

Medicaid managed care and Medicare Advantage plans often offer transportation benefits. Reach out to their provider relations teams and ask how they source transportation vendors.

Facilities and private pay

  • Dialysis centers need reliable, recurring rides three times a week.
  • Hospitals need discharge rides, often on short notice.
  • Senior living communities and adult day programs book regular group trips.
  • Families pay privately for rides that insurance doesn’t cover.

What keeps contracts

Winning a contract is the start. Keeping it depends on on-time performance, clean documentation, and quick answers when something goes wrong. Track your on-time rate, keep signatures and GPS times on every trip, and report problems before the broker finds them.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get approved by a NEMT broker?

Credentialing often takes several weeks. Having your insurance, vehicle inspections, and driver files complete before you apply speeds it up.

Can a new NEMT company get contracts?

Yes. Many brokers and facilities work with new providers that meet their requirements. Starting with a specialty like wheelchair or dialysis trips can help you stand out.
